Behavioral Medicine Faculty, Family Medicine Residency Program - Full-Time 32 hours
Based in Middletown, Connecticut, Middlesex Health, a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network, includes Middlesex Hospital, a not-for-profit magnet hospital with 275 beds, and two Middlesex Health Cancer Center locations. It also features three emergency departments and two urgent care centers, along with many other programs and services. The Behavioral Medicine Faculty is a Clinical Psychologist who is a member of the residency program core faculty. They provide oversight of our Behavioral Health Curriculum, direct teaching, participation in larger program discussions, coordination with the Department of Psychiatry, support residents, and engage in scholarly activity. They will be responsible for diagnosing, providing consultation and treatment to patients who suffer from mental, behavioral, or emotional disorders in partnership with residents and faculty.
Time Allocation
Resident teaching and supervision (80%)
Administrative tasks and scholarly activity (20%)
Responsibilities
Assist residents with taking a psychosocial history and assessment of patients with behavioral health conditions as needed
Co-precept the residents and provide feedback and direct observation
Lead the Longitudinal Behavioral Health Curriculum with one session weekly for first year residents and one session weekly for second and third year residents to provide robust Behavioral Medicine training for our future Family physicians o Continue to modify and evolve the curriculum to keep training up to date and meet ACGME requirements o Teach Wednesday afternoon conferences 4 times per year
Oversee fatigue management training for residents
Assist with intern resident orientation and assessment
Select and record resident-patient encounters (with patient consent) to use for discussion and feedback
Coordinate and facilitate monthly joint Family Medicine and Department of Psychiatry case conference
Participate in Finding Meaning in Medicine
Serve as Core Faculty o Participate in weekly faculty meetings and curriculum review o Participate in CLER Institutional Action Plan o Participation in resident progress reviews
Participate in remediation and personalized improvement plans for residents with communication, professionalism, and learning needs
Coordinate resident Psychological/Educational Assessments
Lead and support the Behavioral Science Track
Partner with the Department of Psychiatry to set up pharmacological teaching, patient case review, and experiential opportunities for the residents
Coordinate resident support groups
Interview residency applicants, provide written summaries, and participate in the discussion at Rank Day
Serve as faculty lead of the Wellness, Resilience & Burnout Prevention Committee
Engage in scholarly activity, usually in partnership with residents and faculty
Serve as a member of the CCC (Clinical Competence Committee)
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from accredited doctoral program in clinical psychology
Completion of an APA or APPIC-approved internship in clinical psychology
At least one year of clinical experience strongly preferred
Current, Unrestricted license to practice as a clinical psychologist in the State of Connecticut
Meets criteria for maintenance of licensure as required by the State of Connecticut
Demonstrated outstanding clinical ability and performance
Prior experience as an educator preferred but not required
Outstanding interpersonal and collaborative skills
